Handloom Sarees
Andhra Pradesh is home to a variety of exotic handlooms and its sarees are famous all over the globe. Each area has its exclusive style and weave. Venkatagiri, Dharmavaram, Gadwal, Pochampalli and Narayanpet are but a few places known for their master weaves, Silks and Cottons. Other famous handloom weaving centres are Chirala, Kothakota, Thimmapadampalli and Uppada.
Among the Cotton Sarees, the Venkatagiri and Narayanpet are considered the best. Venkatagiri Sarees are famous for their fine cotton weaves with gold borders and golden 'pallav'. Narayanpet Cotton Sarees are inexpensive and hardy, but the silks here have a distinct style believed to be influenced by neighbouring Maharashtra.
Dharmavaram silks compare with the sarees of Kancheepuram and have broad borders and extensive gold Zari work. Gadwal sarees are a combination of cotton and silk.
