Salihundam
Most of the Buddhist sites excavated reveal that many of the settlements were on the banks of rivers and streams. Salihundam on the bank of the River Vamsadhara in the northernmost coastal Andhra district of Srikakulam has a Mahastupa, platforms and Viharas providing evidence of the presence of the Vajranya cult. From here, Buddhism is said to have spread to Sumatra and far eastern countries. Srikakulam is about 90 kms from Visakhapatnam and regular bus services are available. |
