Wood & Stone Carvings Artistic Wood Carving
This Carving is pursued by craftsmen in Tirupati, Madhavamalaand Sri Kalahasti. It is one of the oldest traditional crafts of Andhra Pradesh and was earlier used by in creating temple chariots and palace entrances. Teak, Venga, Rosewood and country wood are used for this art. A great deal of minute, delicate and intricate work, depicting Hindu mythological stories and figures, goes into the creation of these fabulous carvings. A few artisans are engaged in the manufacture of furniture and door panels at Bhongir in Nalgonda.

This Cutlery like forks, spoons and knives from Udayagiri in Nellore are very popular. Musical Instruments
These Instruments are created at Gollapalli and Bobbili of the Vazainagaram district and Nuzvid in Krishna district. Exquisitely designed Veenas and Tamburas are carved from a single piece of wood.
Stone figures
Stone figures, aesthetically carved, are created at Durgi and Allagadda using the locally available soft stone. The craftsmen with their deft skill conform to the standards of 'shilpa sastra' (science of sculpture) and mostly carve figures of Hindu deities. |
